General Information

Our Head Start Program provides services to 516 children and families in ten (10) sites. Nine sites are located through out the city of Buffalo and one site at the Weinberg Nursing Home in Getzville, New York. Classroom Head Start operates twenty-one classroom, 10 full day sessions and 11 half-day sessions. Seven sites are part of the Southtowns Head Start Program.

Collaboration with community other agencies is to our program which included the Buffalo Board of Education Universal Pre-K Program, Kaleida, Buffalo Hearing and Speech, Gateway Longview Therapeutic Program, Building Mentally Healthy Communities (BMHC) and RIF.

Services to children and families included education (literacy/numeracy), nutrition, health, mental health, social services, parent involvement and disabilities. Speech therapist, physical and occupational therapist and special education teachers work directly with our children and teachers in the classroom.

Parents are key to our program and are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom, form center parent committee's, and be a part of the policy and decision making process for the program. This process often lead to jobs for parents who are unemployed.

Eligibility

Must be low income, at or below the federal designated poverty level
At least 10% of our children must have a diagnosed disability.
