The CAO New Ventures housing program provides housing assistance to low income families and individuals. In addition to assisting with agency and community resources to prevent homelessness – pending foreclosures or evictions, our services include:
- Counseling and case management to identify symptoms that lead to crises – aimed at establishing self-sufficiency;
- Thirty-eight rental units of housing in the City of Buffalo and a single family home in Lackawanna, NY;
- Julian B. Dargan Independent Living Center - This transitional housing facility at 273 Ridge Road in Lackawanna can accommodate six females in single occupancy rooms, between the ages of 18 to 25 who've been aged out of foster care or were in a shelter;
- A grant for first month's rent, one month past due rent (to prevent eviction), or one month past due mortgage payment (to prevent foreclosure) – when available through FEMA funds;
- Emergency Shelter Program vouchers (when available) to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul for household necessities or referral needed from community agency .
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Before you can receive services, you must schedule an intake appointment.
When you come for your appointment, please bring the following documents:
- Picture ID,
- Social Security cards for all members in household,
- Letterhead referral from shelter or referring Agency,
- Proof of Income (budget sheet, SSI or SSD award letter, pay stubs, child support),
- Eviction notice, shutoff notice, or documentation from utility company, and
- Proof of Section 8 / Belmont Subsidy.
