The Emergency Shelter Program assists low-income families and individuals with both agency and community resources to resolve emergencies and crises, such as homelessness, a pending foreclosure, or eviction. Other services include case management (if not being provided by another agency or CAO Program), assistance in identifying the signs of a pending crisis, and help establishing goals and activities that leading to self-sufficiency.

The Emergency Shelter Program provides financial assistance when funds are available. Income eligible persons can receive a one-time maximum interest free loan of $300, to be:
 

  • Used to avoid legal eviction or foreclosure,
  • applied toward a security deposit or the 1st month's rent,
  • applied toward one month past due rent to prevent eviction, or
  • used to pay one month past due mortgage payment to prevent foreclosure.

Please bring the following documents to the intake appointment:  

  1. Picture ID,
  2. Social Security cards or identification for all family members,
  3. letterhead referral from shelter or referring agency,
  4. proof of income (budget sheet, SSI, or SSD award letter, pay stubs), and
  5. eviction notice, shut off notice or documentation from utility company, and proof of Section 8, if applicable.

The Emergency Shelter Program can also provide vouchers to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul for household necessities.
